GRADUATE SHOWCASE

Welcome to my Showcase. This page highlights a collection of artifacts from my studies in the Master of Education Program at Michigan State University. Here I chose to share examples which highlight my two areas of focus in the program, Literacy and Online Teaching and Learning. These examples range from usable classroom tools to professional development presentations. Some of the artifacts can be used as a resource for educators, a resource for students, and some are examples of my own academic work. Hover over the icons or titles for links.

LITERACY

This piece demostrates my ability to create enaging and useful presenations to share in my professional learning comunity. The focus of this project is digital literacy and technologoical knowledge. I am fortunate to have access to a wonderful community of Enlgish educators through our regional intermediate school district. We have a local ELA collaborative in which we are able to learn as well as present to and teach colleagues. I created a presenation on TPACK to present to our group. The slide deck also contains shareable example materials so that colleagues could create their own lesson on charcaterization.

Part of my ongoing formation as an educator includes the ability to self assess my own progress. This essay is one of many I have written as a reflection of my progress thus far. If we can't effectively and honestly reflect on our own education, we can not learn from it, let alone, ask our students to do the same.Though the paper is mostly a personal account of some of my experiences, I speak to the nature of my own practice as well.

Here I have included a case study in literacy focused on a former sixth grade student with a focus on reading comprehension through vocabulary. This study highlights my ability to contribute collaboratively with colleagues and our student support teams. The study was later used by our student support team to fully assess her difficulties which ultimately led to placement in a special education classroom for English Language Arts where she was able to have more support.

In this review of Ray Bradbury's book Zen in the Art of Writing, I quickly admit I have not read one of his classics. But not only have I gone back and read Fahrenheit 451, I have learned much about my own writing and reading practice from having read Zen. The review attached here is a sample of my own writing, an exercise and a piece I greatly value.  I believe this artifact is an example of my continued acquisition  of content knowledge for my specific focus of English Language Arts.

ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING

This assignment is an example of differentiation for students learning either remotely or in person. I created this literary analysis assignment due to the complexity of the language used. We Ate the Children Last is a frightfully wonderful story by author Yann Martel, though he uses a fair amount of French phrases and a sophisticated  vocabulary throughout, I didn't want that to be a roadblock for adventurous readers. The text features bookmarked definitions, and links to pronunciations for foreign language. The story and assessment are attached in one document for ease of use.

The Short Story Project is an example of my own curriculum design meant to specifically allow students to learn collaboratively online, the elements of story. Please explore how this project can be implemented through Google Classroom.

Knowing how to communicate by multiple means has become so important in recent years. I know that I have varied ways in which to provide intrsuction that live well outside of the physival classroom. Here I've created a short tutorial on how to set up a student writing journal. We can't assume that students know how to do what we're asking, no matter how common it may seem in our current educational setting.

TPACK Edpuzzle Quiz

This is a sample quiz created through edpuzzle.com. The assessment is an example meant to illustrate for colleagues the usefulness of and enaging quality of the platform as well as shares information about the TPACK Framework. I chose this artifact to highlight mt ability to use multimodal means for student assessment.
