Assessment Design: Creating a Practical Checklist

Before beginning any task, a clear and specific outcome needs to be defined. Creating assessments is no different. One way to ensure that those target goals are being met is to develop a practical checklist of questions which will guide the assessment design process. Below is an example of the first steps in this design process:

Begin with questions and provide answers.
Is this assessment formative?
Yes, this assessment will be designed as a learning progression in which sub skills of a greater curricular goal are constructed. Both teacher and student based strategies may be adjusted along the way.
